Pemiscot County is located in the most southeastern region of Missouri, along the banks of the Mississippi River, in an area commonly referred to as the Bootheel. Several small towns occupy Pemiscot County, including Caruthersville (county seat), Hayti, Steele, Wardell, Deering and Cooter, along with many small towns. As of 2020, the population of Pemiscot County is estimated at 15, 661.
Many travelers make their way into and through Pemiscot County via two major interstates - Interstate 55 (north and south) and Interstate 155 (east to Tennessee). The Missouri Welcome Center is opened to tourists and travelers and is located at mile marker 21, just north of the Hayti exit 19. Several hotels and restaurants are located right off I-55 in Hayti, as well as 3 miles southeast in Caruthersville.
Local residents enjoy the many features of small towns. Pemiscot County hosts fairs, community-wide events, high school games, and the music and fun of Century Casino. It is also home to many great restaurants, small businesses, and lots of rich farmland.
